Biography:  
   
Since 2004, Dr. Mary Howerton has operated a human management consulting firm, with 25 years of experience in business and non-profit development and management. Her expertise includes the areas of professional leadership development, organizational culture development, and executive coaching for professionals and business leaders.
 
Mary served as the Executive Director of the American Cancer Society, first CEO of both Hospice at Charlotte, Inc., and the Mecklenburg County Bar Association & the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation where she initiated new programs and developed staff and volunteers. She is sought after as a public speaker, and has trained and facilitated groups ranging from effective human resources initiatives and communication skills to professional leadership and culture development. Her clients include mid-upper level management, professionals and organizations.
 
Mary has received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service, Queens University Internship Program Supervisor of the Year Award, Simmons YMCA Mind, Body, & Spirit Award, UNC-Charlotte Counseling Honorary Society's Meritorious Award, and was awarded an honorary doctorate of Human Letters from Queens University.
 
Professional and Community Involvement
Mary has been active in her community, serving as chairperson of the following: Chemical Dependency Board, Domestic Violence Advocacy Council, Health Education Roundtable, the Women's Executive Network, the Mecklenburg County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Drug Free Coalition. She is also a current advisory board member of the Lifetime Learning Institute at Central Piedmont Community College.
